Julie M. Funk is a PhD student in English and Cultural, Social, and Political Thought at the University of Victoria. She is also a member of the Praxis Studio at UVic. Julie’s research is situated in the field of science and technology studies; she is particularly interested in hormonal codings of human and non-human bodies through medical and discursive technologies and their biopolitics. Her current research looks at the way “AI-powered” smart family planning technologies can shape medical and reproductive identities of their users. Julie has previously presented her work at Congress (2017), SLSA (2017, 2018, 2019), and R-CADE (2018).
